We help local seniors age 65+ who live in their own homes with small household tasks that can become difficult or unsafe to do alone.
Emerald Valley Helpers exists to support seniors age 65+ who live in their own homes by providing friendly assistance with small household tasks that may have become difficult or unsafe to do alone.
This takes about 10 seconds and only needs to be done once. It's free, and afterward you can open Emerald Valley Helpers with a single tap, just like any other app on your phone.
Emerald Valley Helpers is for seniors age 65+ who live in their own homes and need occasional help with light-duty tasks that may be difficult or unsafe to do themselves. We are not a housecleaning, dishwashing, laundry, or ongoing housekeeping service.
Light bulbs, smoke-detector batteries, filters, reaching small items, and other everyday tasks.
Help with appropriate ladder tasks such as changing high light bulbs, replacing smoke-alarm or carbon-monoxide alarm batteries, and other simple hard-to-reach household tasks.
Help getting boxed or bagged donation items out of the house and on their way to a local donation center.
Hang pictures and help with other simple household tasks that may be difficult because of height, reach, mobility, or safety concerns.
Blow leaves or debris off sidewalks, pick up golf balls, plant annuals to brighten your home, and help with other small outdoor tasks that are difficult to keep up with.
Programming a remote control, setting up a TV, connecting basic devices, and helping with other everyday electronics that can be frustrating to configure.
Get lightweight holiday boxes and decorations down or put them away, and help hang Christmas lights when the task can be completed safely.
If your need isn't listed, send a request. We'll let you know whether it fits the program or if another resource may be better.
In addition to individual help requests, Emerald Valley Helpers plans occasional community projects that make it easier for seniors to participate, connect with neighbors, and take care of things around their homes.
Emerald Valley Helpers may coordinate neighborhood garage-sale days in participating communities. We can help organize the date, promote the community sale, coordinate signs, and assist participating seniors with reasonable setup and donation pickup afterward.
Our role is to organize and lend a helping hand. Each participant remains responsible for pricing and selling their own items and handling their own money.
Tell us what you need and the best way to reach you.
We make sure the request fits the type of help we can safely provide.

Emerald Valley Helpers was founded by Charlene Placko, who was looking for a meaningful way to help others in her community. She saw an opportunity to help local seniors with the small but important tasks around the home that can become difficult or unsafe to do on their own.
Charlene recruited Canyon Travers to join her in the mission of helping seniors age 65+ who live in their own homes. Together, they are working to make a difference through practical, friendly help — one small task at a time.
Changing a high light bulb, replacing smoke-alarm or carbon-monoxide alarm batteries, hanging a picture, planting a few flowers, programming a remote control, setting up a TV, or taking donations away may seem like a little thing. But for someone who can no longer safely climb a ladder, bend repeatedly, or handle the task alone, that little bit of help can mean a lot.
